Kingsbridge Handfull Of Treats, born January 4, 2016, is named after a character in the powerful historical novel The Invention Of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd.  The character of Handful is a strong, courageous and intelligent black female slave growing up in early nineteenth century Charleston.  I was inspired by her story of hope, heart and courage to dare.

Handfull is the best of her mother Caris and grandmother Tralee.  She is a beautiful Flat-Coated Retriever with correct conformation;  Handfull is a triple champion earning American Kennel Club, United Kennel Club and International All Breed Canine Association breed championships.  She is clever; passing an American Kennel Club beginner tracking test (TD) at 10 months and earning her Champion Tracker (CT) at 3 years. She is an energetic, fun-loving companion, versatile in her learning aptitudes. Handfull continues to train and show in agility, hunting, nosework, and obedience. Here are some of her accomplishments.  I’m confident she will continue to shine in all her endeavors.

  • National Association of Canine Scent Work Elite 3 (ELT3)
  • United Kennel Club Elite Nosework (EN) and Started Hunting Retriever (SHR)
  • Canine Performance Events Agility Enthusiast Champion
  • Flat-Coated Retriever Society of American Working Certificate
  • American Kennel Club Versatile Companion Dog 1 (VCD1 = Companion Dog + Novice Agility Preferred + Novice Jumpers Preferred +  Tracking Dog), Open Agility Standard Preferred (OAP), Excellent Agility Jumper Preferred (AJP), Agility FAST Excellent Preferred (XFP), Rally Excellent, and Trick Dog Performer
  • Canine – Work And GameS,  all nine possible scent work titles

In 2019 Handfull was bred to GCHG CH Athercroft Inquesoemergency “Corbly” and on June 11th whelped eight healthy, vigorous puppies; four boys and four girls.  One of the girls, Promise, stayed to continue the Kingsbridge line.

Handfull will be inducted into the FCRSA Hall of Fame in 2023.  The HOF honors FCRs that have achieved extraordinary success in their chosen fields, and at the same time have proven they reflect the dual purpose nature of the breed.  The owner or breeder can apply by meeting the following criteria:  (1) Earn a minimum of 175 points based upon their accomplishments; (2) Earn an AKC conformation championship; and (3) Earn an AKC Junior Hunting Retriever (JH) or Working Certificate Excellent (WCX) title.  Handfull has earned 220 points, along with her AKC conformation championship, and Junior Hunter title.

Handfull also loves finding sticks, retrieving balls and swimming.  But her favorite are stuffed animal toys!
